I don't understand how the RGB matrix works, like which pins do what, bitwidth for pins, etc., and the user guide doesn't explain it. How does it work?

The function of the pins is simple, for each pin of the RGB LED there is a colour and this means that that pin will handle that colour with all its shades. The bit width on each pin of the RGB LED is 8 bits. If you notice at the bottom left of the screen it shows you errors such as bit width error by also telling you that you with e.g. with the input you are 4 bits but the RGB pin is 8 bits then in that case you will get the error of "BitWidth Error. 4 and 8" thus showing you the 4 bit input you currently have and the bit width you actually need.
